Card counting for Edward Thorp was about proving a mathematical formula, not making money. When he authored "Beat the Dealer" in 1962, the first widely published book with a proven system for card counting, Thorp was a mathematician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology trying to improve a theory.

I concentrate my bets on the pass line, the odds bet (behind the pass line) and the numbers 6 and 8. These bets have the smallest house edge. Always take advantage of the maximum you can have on the odds bet, as there is a 0% edge to the house.
I like to press (top up) my winning bets to maximize the potential profit from a long successful throw. For example, when I throw a winner for the pass line, I take around half of the profit and reinvest the rest on the next throw.
If either the 6 or 8 is thrown I again take about half of the profit and top up the rest again on that number. I continue this pressing theme until a nasty 7 is thrown and then start at the beginning again with small bets. This system can produce some spectacular wins.
